Be prepared to be disappointed

Life has it’s ups and downs, and with a child with autism the ups and downs are much more severe than with the rest of us. Kids with high functioning autism especially have splinter skills and strong passions and interests that give you very high hopes for their ability to succeed in some very fun, exciting activities-even career options. Just remember that passion, interest and desire does not always equal (immediate or easy) success when you have severe communication and social issues.

Just think of Temple Grandin, keep moving forward, keep trying, keep the end in site (or stay in and enjoy the moment). You’ll have lots of ups-you just have to get through those downs, and over those gaps.
